3' wide clump is topped in early summer with 2' spikes of medium lavender flowers
The inflorescence that appears before the leaves emerge is composed of a 1/2" tall pale-pink thimble-shaped spathe with purple speckling around the top
while the lower petal and flower base are a vividly contrasting red-orange (RHS 42A)
especially where large masses of weed-excluding masses are desired
A 5-year-old patch will spread to 3' wide
Jeffersonia dubia Allium 3' wide clump is topped(aka: Plagiorhegma dubium) This Korean counterpart to our native Jeffersonia diphylla starts its life in early spring when it produces numerous stalks of upfacing blue lavender cupped flowers. Just as the flowering ceases, the foliage emerges from a tight clump, resembling a nicely lobed Sanguinaria canadensis (bloodroot). Jeffersonia dubia prefers well drained but slightly moist soils and a near neutral pH.
